Rebecca A. Cassell

Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late George Dale Ashley, Sr. and Ollie Christeen Burroughs Ashley. Mrs. Cassell was a graduate of the Greenville Hospital School of Nursing, earned her Masters of Nursing degree from the University of South Carolina, and retired from Greenville Health System. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach. She was the former President of the Greenville Jaycee-ettes and was the first female Secretary of the Belton Kiwanis Club. She loved crafts and crocheted numerous prayer shawls for her church.

Mrs. Cassell is survived by three sisters, Evelyn Ashley, Jane Ashley Ballenger (Tony), and Judy Ashley Brock (Pascal); a brother, George Dale Ashley, Jr.; three nieces, Cathy Miller, Cindy Hunter (Shawn), and Christeen Sheridan (Thai); two nephews, William Ashley (Beth) and Dale Ashley (Brandi); three great-nephews, Preston Ashley, Brandon Sheridan, and Kyle Sheridan; and A.H. her cat. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Patricia Ashley; and a nephew, Brian Ashley.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clemson University School of Nursing – Greenville, 701 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605, or Trinity United Methodist Church, 706 14th Ave S, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582, or the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, 8 Bay St, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
