She was married for 60 years to her devoted late husband, Bill. Peggy's family includes her son Rick and his wife, Bea of Virginia; her daughter Jan Durham and her late husband, Doug of Taylors; her son Kyle and his wife, Karen of Simpsonville. Her grandchildren are Ross (Laura) and Will (Carly) Durham, Katie Beth (Reeves) Knight, and Cory and Carly Bailey. She was also very proud of her seven “great-grands”: Reece & Camden Durham; Blakely, Mayzie, and Bella Reid Durham; RJ & Rosie Kate Knight. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, her parents, Lawrence Glenn and Daphne Wilson, and son-in-law, Doug Durham.
She was a 1947 graduate of Greenville High School, and attended Furman University after graduation.
Peggy was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family will always remember her loving spirit as she welcomed family into her home and never missed an opportunity to spend time with those she loved. Her positive attitude is noteworthy, as she seldom complained about her health or her life, even in the often-lonely covid times.
Her life was marked by her strong faith and sincere love for others. Her greatest joy was to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to all she encountered.
Peggy was an active member first of Central Baptist Church and later Earle Street Baptist. While at Central, she was the director of the Community Bible Club. Every Thursday for 27 years, she would invite neighborhood children to Central’s gym where they would play, eat, and listen to Bible stories. She is particularly proud of those children, now adults, who have kept in touch with her. Later in life, she joined Earle Street. Those who knew her at Earle Street grew to love her as well.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice of the Upstate who cared for her the past two weeks.
