Milo (Mike) Leroy Adamson marched triumphantly into the arms of his Lord at the age of 96 on October 21, 2019. He joyfully joined his wife of 77 years, Marjorie (Marj) Irene Poage Adamson, who preceded him in death on October 1, 2019. They were married at the St. Paul’s Memorial Methodist Church of South Bend, IN, on November 8, 1941. They resided at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community in Laurens, SC the past 7 years. He spent most of his adult life in Peru, IN retiring to Sebring, FL and later to Laurens, SC.
Mike graduated from Gilead High School in Perry Township, IN. He worked at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant in Laporte, IN, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII fighting the battle of Iwo Jima and in the occupation of Japan. He was discharged as a Corporal. Mike returned from the war to Peru, IN where he worked for Peru Laundry, then Indiana Bottle Gas. He was recalled to the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mike returned to the Bottle Gas Company after Korea, followed by the Canteen, Square D Electrical Company, and Federal Mogul. He belonged to the Masons, the Elks, the Easter Seals Society, Eastern Star, Amaranth, Moose and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. There was little that Mike couldn’t fix or create. He was an avid gardener and got the most joy out of sharing the fruits of his labors.
Mike was preceded in passing by his parents, Clarence Adamson and Vesta Deal, three sisters, Geneva Coe (George), Winona Kerschner (Harvey), and Margaret Krisher (Kenneth), a brother, Samuel Adamson (Betty) and one grandson, Erik Michael Adamson.
Mike is survived by his three children, son Michael L. Adamson (Janet) of Ninety Six, SC, and daughters Pamela J. Morris (Robert) of Bunker Hill, IN, and Rorahjean “Jean” Patterson (Robert) of Daphne, AL. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Mark Adamson (Deana) of Charlotte, NC, Todd Adamson (Kimberly) of Ellijay, GA, Theresa Stewart (Matthew) of Russiaville, IN, David Morris (Angela) of Kokomo, IN, and Benjamin Sanders of Daphne, AL. There are 11 great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Rossitto (Ernesto) of Flower Mound, TX; Carmen and Ian Adamson of Charlotte, NC; Christian and Grayson Adamson of Stratford, CT; Morgan, Cameryn, and Caelyn Stewart of Russiaville, IN; Tyler Allen, Emily and Madalyn Morris of Kokomo, IN.
A memorial service for Mike and Marj will be held Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rasor Chapel at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC. They will be laid to rest at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Prince William County, VA.
