Matthew Aaron Barber

Matthew Aaron Barber, 28, beloved son of Sherri and Dale Allred of Greenville, SC, and Joel and Shelly Barber of Charlotte, NC, passed from this life to life eternal on Monday, May 27, 2024. Matthew was born in Greenville on January 19, 1996.

Matthew was a lifetime Aldersgate United Methodist Church member and an avid basketball player. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 2014, proudly participating in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps for four years. Matthew had a passion for serving others and lived that out as a basketball coach and working alongside close friends at Kendall’s Grill.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jonathan Barber, of Greenville, and siblings Lauren Allred Valdez (Jeff), Matthew Allred, Bailee Allred Fralick, Anna Barber and Andrew Barber; grandparents Brenda Lanning, Lanny Barber, and John and Judy Isenhour all of Salisbury, NC, and girlfriend Danielle Breau of Greenville. He was preceded in death by grandparents Albia G. Linthicum, Sr., of Salisbury, and Carl and Mary Allred of Greenville.

Friends of Matthew’s who will attend the service are invited to wear their basketball jerseys or t-shirts in his honor.

A celebration of life service is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 7 Shannon Drive, Greenville, South Carolina. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. with a service to follow at 12:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Aldersgate UMC and Miracle Hill Ministries.
