Born on June 29, 1941 at Camp Forrest in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Ann was the daughter of the late Beaufort “Boo” Goodman McCuen Cheves Olechovsky and the late Langdon Cheves.
Ann is survived by her beloved husband Gordon; daughter Cheves Sherard Steck and her husband, Garrett; son Gordon Brown Sherard, III and his wife Molly; and son Reid Thomas Sherard and his wife Carrie; and her six precious angel grandchildren Curry Cheves Sherard, Molly McCuen Sherard, Birney Bronaugh Sherard, Garrett David Steck, Jr., Langdon Sherard Steck, and Ann Fisher Sherard.
The grandchildren affectionately called her “Honey.”
Ann attended Greenville County Schools and Sullins College. She was a parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of The Debutante Club of Greenville, the Quadrille Club, the Carillon, the Metropolitan Club, the Junior League of Greenville, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and numerous other civic and social organizations. She was an avid supporter of the arts, including her support of the Metropolitan Arts Council. Her preference was to participate to maximum effect and without credit for her efforts. Ann was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. She was gracious and kind and was absolutely devoted to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family, for whom her focus was always putting their needs above her own. Her manner of thinking of others before herself extended to all with whom she came in contact. She truly lived life to the fullest.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church.
The family will receive friends at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The American Heart Association of Upstate South Carolina; The Langdon Cheves (’36) Scholarship of the Clemson University Foundation; or the charity of one’s choice.
