Loretta Gamache Hill, 82, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Born on February 28, 1940 in Willimantic, CT, she will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful friend.
Loretta was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hermine (Senechal) Gamache and the widow of Dr. William Raymond Hill. She was a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Loretta grew up in a French-Canadian community speaking French most of her childhood. Following college graduation, she worked as a teacher in Connecticut before traveling to Germany to teach on an U.S. Army base, where she met and married her husband of 52 years, Bill Hill in 1965. They enjoyed an incredible life together full of world travel, dancing, hosting dinner parties, beach trips, and family time. Loretta embraced life as a military spouse, raising her family all over the US (and even overseas) before settling in Columbia, SC in 1985. She has lived in Greenville, SC the past 7 years and enjoyed being closer to all her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew Hill and wife Alison of Simpsonville; Mark Hill and his wife Katie of Greer; her three grandchildren Nathan, Luke, and Seren; sister, Norma Berek of Waterford, CT.; brother Maurice Gamache of Lebanon, CT.; brother-in-law, George Hill and wife Sherry of Evans, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother Arthur Gamache.

A memorial service for Loretta will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. Following the memorial service will be a committal service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
