Joe "Donnie" Matthews

Joe "Donnie" Donald Matthews, 78 of Greenville passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Born in Washington, Georgia, he was the son of the late Isaac Nathan and Hattie Wheatley Matthews. Joe retired from Thermo-Kinetics as a Project Manager in 1997 and previously worked at Greenville Steel. He was a Mason and of the Baptist faith as well as did woodwork at "Joe's Woodshop" following retirement. Joe also served in the Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife: Betty Payne Matthews of Greenville; two daughters: Jodie (Michael) Keener of Taylors and Tanya Matthews Merrill of Greenville; a nephew: Ronnie (Shelia) Matthews of Greenville; three grandchildren: Matthew Chase McJunkin, Jessica Keener, and Brynne Merrill (Matthew) Ashe; a brother: Horace Matthews of Greer and a sister: Juanita (Kenneth) Barnett of Greenville .Joe was predeceased by a sister: Jessie Lou Detterman; a brother: Robert Burch Matthews; a sister-in-law: Nita Matthews and a granddaughter: Amanda Leigh McJunkin. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 12:30 pm in Woodlawn Memorial Park with visitation prior to the service from 11:00 am - 12:15 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
