Born in West Virginia in 1928, to Charles Obia and Helen Eliza (Hammel) Rymer, Jerry graduated from Ohio Northern University. He had a long career as a registered pharmacist in the greater Columbus, OH, area, and later in Chillicothe, OH. He retired to Greenville, SC, to be near his daughters and most of his grandchildren.
He loved reading, walking, amusement parks and roller coasters, and in his younger years, running and biking. He ran a number of marathons, including the 1986 Chicago marathon. His yearbook ambition was to be the first pharmacist on Mars, but he had to settle for a variety of Earth pharmacies. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and then great-grandchildren grow and flourish. He shared with them the delights of his garden and the fun of tire swings and stilts.
He is survived by his son Patrick (Barbara) Rymer of Simpsonville, SC, his daughters Mary (Mark) Sidwell and Katie (Randy) Leedy of Greenville, SC, and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Harriet (Ferson) Rymer, predeceased him as did his three siblings.
There will be a private service. Memorial donations may be made to Independent Bible Church, 2202 E. North St., Greenville, SC 29607, or to the American Cancer Society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Rymer family.
