Born in Greenville, SC on November 24, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Cecil Whitlock. She attended Greenville High School. Together, she and Wayne Keith Brockman (Nancy) shared one daughter, or as they often said was their one true best gift, Laura Paige Crain. She was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church for 37 years and found much joy and happiness in the friendships she shared amongst the Women's Bible Studies. She was very passionate about her work life in which she functioned as a medical assistant in various doctors' offices in the early part of her career. She retired after 33 years as an administrative assistant from Gastroenterology Associates of Greenville.
She loved dancing and enjoyed shag dancing with her boyfriend, Jerry Thomas Brooks. She and Jerry enjoyed a special relationship for nearly 9 years. Jan enjoyed the simple things in life such as sitting on her front porch with loved ones, listening to motown and beach music, and boasting about her family. She also looked forward to each holiday with her family. Each day, she focused on the little things that brought much joy to others. Her family knew that there was always someone "just checking in on them."
Jan is survived by her daughter Laura "Paige" Crain (Billy). Once she was blessed with grandchildren, William "Chase" Crain (Mallory) and Eden Cecile Richardson (Grant), they became her world. She is also survived by her boyfriend Jerry Thomas Brooks of Simpsonville, SC.
Services for Jan will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 101 Pisgah Rd. Easley, SC 29642. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609.
