He is survived by his sisters: Lillian Harnsberger, Jan Evans Givens, Gaye McMillan and Vicky Irby; his children Cynthia Marie Williamson, Paul Mark Trippe, Lorraine Hazel Fields; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his caretaker and friend Rose Dowling.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel Murdaugh Trippe, son James Ashley Trippe III, sisters Mozelle Epp and Mary Stokes.
He was born in Vanceboro NC to the late, James Ashley Trippe and Beula Viola Sutton.
Mr. Trippe was a proud 32 degree Master Mason belonging to the Tropical lodge # 56 in Fort Myers, Fl.
March 1944 Mr. Trippe joined the United States Navy, where he served in the submarine bomber squadron as a Seaman Second Class until 1946. Mr. Trippe had a knack for business and met his wife Femmie Hazel Murdaugh while as a traveling salesman for the Interstate Battery Company. They were married on March 23, 1953.
After their marriage, Mr. Trippe went on to become a civil engineer. He began working in road construction in the early years of highway development in Florida. He took pride in his business and his partnerships. He continued in the same business after relocating his family to the Upstate of South Carolina. Under his guidance and tutelage he helped his two sons and son in law begin their businesses and careers in road construction and development.
Mr. Trippe had a passion for aviation. During his years in Florida he enjoyed flying his planes over our great country. In his later years he would tell stories of those planes to his grandchildren and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday January 27, 2020 at the Mackey at Century Dr., Greenville, SC with his entombment to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont, SC. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at 1:00 PM.
