James Mariner (Jim) Thompson, 81, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. He was born in Greenville, SC, son of the late Gilman F. and Lillie Cox Thompson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Gilman F. Thompson, Jr., and three sisters, Frances Thompson, Julia Sparks and Dorothy Crawford.
He is survived by his former wife and caregiver Carolyn Moody Thompson, and two nieces, Diane C. Wilson and Margaret S. Bolt (John).
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Mackey chapel with burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to a charity of your choice.
The family has requested masks be worn during the services for the safety of those attending.
