He was born October 19, 1932 in Kershaw, South Carolina, a son of the late John T. Outen and Mattie Miller Outen. Mr. Outen was the husband of Mable “Nickye” Casey Outen, the Love of his Life for 66 years.
He served in the United States Navy for 12 years and during that time served in the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Navy, he drove a truck for Bi-Lo and also Wrangler/Blue Bell from which he retired. He loved his family, friends, and his extended family through his active membership in Piedmont United Methodist Church. He served on many committees within his church and served as Church Treasurer for seven years until his health began to fail.
James and Nickye lived in a community where they enjoyed helping the neighbors and taking them to doctor’s appointments and running other errands. Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior and studying God’s Word. A year and a half ago he was moved to Mountain Home Health and Rehab in Hendersonville, NC where he joined the Love of his Life.
