He leaves behind his wife, Katy Glidewell; a daughter, Lori (Beth) Glidewell; a son, Ross (Amber) Glidewell; and his two beloved grandchildren, Ramsey and Turner Glidewell. He is survived by his sister-in-laws; Peggy Weaver, Carolyn (David) Adams, and Katherine Bunn. His nieces and nephews were also so very special to him; Ramsey Glidewell, Lyn LaRussa, Dodd Weaver, Susan Morgan, Josh Adams, Meg Ellis, Clay Collie and Austin Cooper.
Jim was born to Ralph and Helen Glidewell in Gadsden, AL. He attended Auburn University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Textile Engineering and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Through Jim's creer in textile sales with Eastman Chemical, he and Katy lived in Tennessee, New Jersey and Texas before settling in Greenville, South Carolina in 1984. He was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as youth adviser, usher and counter for many years. He also served as an elder at Freehold Presbyterian Church while living in New Jersey. He served this Country in the Army National Guard of Tennessee.
He loved golf, sailing, tennis, biking at the beach, football (really all sports) and traveling. He enjoyed coaching his children's soccer teams when they were young. Jim listened to all kinds of music, especially jazz, blues, beach and oldies. He was a connoisseur of salt, peanuts, hot sauce and gin and tonics! Nothing was more special or cherished than his time as "Papa" with Ramsey and Turner. They gave him so much joy and love and he loved every minute spent with them.
Jim was a genuinely kind, easy going, fun and happy, positive person. The family is grateful for his life, faith and influence on each of us. We are also grateful for the many, many caregivers over the last few months that have inspired us to care for others and to be more compassionate each day.
