Jacqueline “Jackie” Murphy Mumma passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. After many years of declining health, she has now been made whole and is rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is celebrating with family and friends who went on before her. Born on August 5, 1932, she was the daughter of Emma and Edward Murphy.
Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Lavern Koser Mumma, Sr. She had five children, Sharon (Dewey), Lavern, Jr. (Leeanne), Kenneth (Cynthia), Michael (Rita), and Jonathan (Dianne), eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren (with two more due this year). She is also survived by her brother Keith (Louise) Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jean Sardino, Patsy Eichler, Harold Murphy, Stanley Murphy, and Jere Murphy. Also, she had a special place in her heart for Wanda, a daughter-in-law who passed in 2019.
Jackie began her career as a waitress at Clearview Diner in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where she met her husband. After moving to South Carolina in 1963, she worked in a clerical position at The Gospel Hour until her retirement. She loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Whenever any of them would visit, they always went home with treats which often included their favorites such as rice pudding, pound cake, bread pudding, or her famous fruitcake cookies which she made during the Christmas season. Her faith was strong and before her health began to decline, she and her husband served in several ministries at both Morningside Baptist Church and Rolling Green Village retirement community where they lived since 1997.
The family wants to thank all of the excellent medical providers she had over the past forty plus years of illness and especially over the past year from Rolling Green Village and Hospice of the Upstate. A special thank you to her Hospice nurse, Lisa, as well as Dr. Manfredi, Social Worker Robin, and Chaplain Deon who sang to her every visit and comforted her with his beautiful voice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 1115 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
A visitation for Jackie will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 followed by a funeral service 12:00 PM.
