Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late H.B. and Eva Batson. Mr. Batson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University and a Master of Arts degree in Health Science from Central Michigan University. He served as Program Director and professor of Medical Laboratory Technology at Greenville Technical College for 31 years. He also served in the United States Army Medical Corps Reserve.
Mr. Batson was active in Leawood Baptist Church and Taylors First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He taught Sunday School at Leawood for many years. His hobbies included music, interior decorating, landscaping, shopping for a bargain, fitness training, and caring for his dog, Jack.
Surviving are his wife, India Batson; sons, Hugh Bryan Batson and his wife, Kathleen, of Atlanta, Georgia; Dr. Howard K. Batson and his wife, Lisa, of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter India Jaye Young and her husband, Ralph, of Greenville, S.C; one brother, Judge Thomas F. Batson and his wife, Ann, of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Batson Smithee, Jordan Batson Tatum, India Batson Martinez, Logan Young, Chandler Batson and Dillon Young; 5 great grandchildren; two nieces, Kim Garvilla and Shannon Terry; and one nephew, Tee Batson.
Services will be Thursday, October 10th, 10:00 am at the Mackey at Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel with graveside to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gaffney Mausoleum.
