Herbert Milton Albert (Herb, Al, Bud, Daddy, Papa, Pop Pop. Coach), 76 of Greer, SC went to be with our Lord on Saturday November 19, 2022, after a long battle with an Agent Orange Exposure, related illness. He was a USMC and Vietnam Veteran, and retired from AT&T (formerly Bellsouth).
He was born in Old Town, Maine, and grew up on the Penobscot Indian Reservation, “Indian Island”. He was an all-star baseball player in high school. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge, he moved to SC and married his first wife, Nancy, and had two daughters. He was a Deacon at Enon Baptist Church in Easley, for many years, and loved to sing in the choir, and play church softball. Later in life, he moved to Greer, SC and married Judy. He became a member of Praise Cathedral, where he and Judy actively served until his death. He was a fierce competitor in sports and coached many teams, children and adults, men and women. There were no participation awards, you either won or you lost. If you lost, you learned from your mistakes and you did better next game. He believed practice and skill were great, but good sportsmanship was the most important part of every game, as well as in life. He influenced many people on and off the court, and field. He hosted many exchange students from all over the world in his home, and helped to place them in local schools, and with families. He enjoyed traveling and was able to see many parts of not only the United States, but the world. He loved his Gamecocks and would travel to football and baseball games many times a year. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, a great Christian man who truly exemplified the meaning of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Life was not always easy for him, but he was never a quitter, even on his death bed, he fought until the end.
Herbert is survived by his loving bride of 30 years, Judy P. Albert. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Annie Elizabeth Loring and Frank Placid Albert, a brother, Hollis Albert, all of Old Town, Maine. He is also survived by his two daughters, that thought he hung the moon, Heather Albert Harrison (Dean) and Haleigh Lindsay Albert, both of Easley. Two step children, Annette Skipper and Erik Skipper, two brothers, Royce Albert (Dawn), John Albert (Jenny), three sisters, Joyce Howe (Tommy), Joan Rodgers, and Amy Albert. He and Judy have eight grandchildren: Lindzie and Avery Taylor (Heather), Nicole, Megan, and Morgan (Annette), Shane, Harley, and Dawson (Erik). They have 15 great grandchildren including, Camden of the home, whom Herb raised and loved as a son.
We (Judy, Heather, and Haleigh) would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses and aids that cared for our precious angel over the past few weeks, from Interim Hospice. These are truly amazing people with servant hearts.
