The oldest son of Fred L Mims, Sr and Evelyn Pannell Mims, Fred was born and grew up in Greenville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and only sibling, Richard Michael “Mike” Mims, whom he dearly loved and missed.
Fred graduated from Furman University with a B.A. in Psychology and later earned a Master’s degree in Education from The University of Georgia. He spent his career in the classroom and as a media specialist working thirty years, all in Georgia. His favorite group of students were members of the Class of 1967 at Toccoa High School in Stephens County. He always enjoyed attending their reunions.
He also attended the First Wednesday of the Month Lunch Club at Tommy’s Ham House in Greenville with other members of the Greenville High School Class of 1959.
Left behind to cherish their memories of him are his wife, Sheri, two nephews and their families, Chuck Mims and his wife, Jennifer Mook, and their three sons, Eliott, Alex, and Max Mims, Damon Mims and his wife Kim Smith Mims, a stepson and his wife, Jay Stewart and Amanda Brookshire Stewart, and their two sons, Logan and Elias, his brother-in-law, Clarke Sanders, his best friend of almost fifty years, Stuart Mellichamp, numerous special cousins, countless friends, his granddogs, Dixie and Robbie, and his cat, Minnie Cat.
Memorial Services will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Mackey Mortuary on Century Drive in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends at the home following the service.
