Born in Kingsport, TN, he was the son of the late Eldon Shelton and Garnieta Shelton. He moved to Greenville, SC in 1972 to attend college and then started a 38 year career with United Parcel Service.
David was a lover of basketball, John Wooden, Clemson football, woodworking, reading, and the book of Proverbs. He never met a stranger and loved caring for people and would always help out if you were in need.
If you knew him, you know he considered his greatest achievement in life to be his children, D. Todd Shelton (Ginny) of New Orleans, LA, Diana Shelton of Columbia, SC, Jennifer Shelton Roy (Micah) of Greenville, SC and Stephanie Shelton Hamrick (Preston) of Greenville, SC. He was also the proud Poppa of Adelaide, Elias and Blaise Hamrick, a loving uncle to four nephews and a niece and a friend to many. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister Kathy Shelton Davis (Bobby) of Greenville, SC, sister Vicky Shelton Mahaffey (Clifford) of Greenville, SC and brother Nathan Shelton (Janet) of Versaille, MO. He was preceded in death by his brother Leon Shelton.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Mackey at Century Drive. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. He will be laid to his earthly rest at Graceland East Cemetery, 2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681, but we have the comfort in knowing, that because of our salvation, we will see David again.
