Dr. Dabney Price Robinson Sr.

Born on November 20 1921, he was the fifth and youngest son of Edward Bryce Robinson DD and Maud Carson Robinson. Only 4 of the boys lived to adulthood, one succumbing to the ‘Spanish Flu Epidemic’ in 1917.

His early life was spent at the Presbyterian Home for Children in a Talladega AL, where his parents were the Superintendent and Matron of the orphan ministry. They provided numerous children with “food and shelter, an education, and a foundational faith in God”.

Dr. Robinson graduated from Furman University in downtown Greenville, Class of ‘43. Two of his older brothers were MDs and one a dentist. The young Furman Hurricane decided to pursue the profession of Dentistry.

Upon enrolling in Atlanta-Southern Dental College, he discovered the school was part of the Army Special Training Program. Due to the war effort, the army and navy were in need of dentists, so he studied dentistry as an army enlisted rank soldier. When the war ended, he was discharged from the military, and practiced dentistry in Birmingham AL. There he met and married Rachel Virginia Latham of New Market, AL.

During the Korean conflict, he was called up and commissioned in the Army Reserves, providing dental care to members of the military. He returned to Greenville SC as a reservist, and he and his young wife made Greenville home.

They joined Greenville’s First Presbyterian Church where he served in the sanctuary choir for 67 years, and raised two children while he practiced General Dentistry for 62 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife in 2000. He is survived by a daughter (Nancy) and a son (Dabney Price Robinson, Jr.) as well as a first cousin (John A. Carson), all of Greenville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and their children.

On Tuesday June 21, 2022, a visitation will be held in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church at 11:00AM. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon, also in the Chapel, with the Rev. Stan Johnson officiating. A graveside committal service will then be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
