Constance Latara Byrd (39), departed this life on Friday, May 07, 2021 after an arduous battle with multiple myeloma (bone cancer) that was exacerbated by symptoms related to Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). She passed away peacefully during her sleep at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, S.C.
Born on September 17, 1981 in Greenville, S.C. she attended Berea High School (Class of ’00) where she was affectionately awarded the ‘Senior Superlative” of Class Clown - because of her light-hearted, yet comical and playful spirit. Classmates and friends alike often acknowledged and spoke of her infectious smile.
Upon graduating from high school she enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces (June 2000) and began postsecondary studies in Logistics. The military’s education demanded intense studies in coursework and tactical training; across various technical and combat areas. Her dedication and hard work as an automated logistical specialist was rewarded with the rank of Army Specialist (E-4).
Later during her tenure in service to the nation she would be awarded and decorated with medals, badges, citations, and ceremonial ribbons for some of the U.S. Army’s highest honors; including the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Driver and Mechanic Badge, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal. Her military career and service concluded January 2006 with an Honorable Discharge.
The discipline and quite patriotism she learned in the Army never left her and later she became a part of the service and logistics team at MAPAL, Inc. (Fountain Inn, S.C.) where she worked until her health would not allow her to any longer.
Constance was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Gene Nathaniel Oglesby, Jr. (Greenville, S.C.); and is survived by her mother, Carolyn M. Byrd (Greenville, S.C.) and seven siblings – three brothers, Sheldon Spann (Florence, S.C.), Jeremy Byrd (Greenville, S.C.), and Jakobe Oglesby (Spartanburg, S.C.) and four sisters, Tiyika Oglesby (Spartanburg, S.C.), Ciera (Travis) Kilgore (Greenville, S.C.), Keyria Sullivan (Greenville, S.C.) and Ebony Oglesby (Spartanburg, S.C.) one brother in law Markeis Brown, and one sister in law Briana (Tevin) Ryans (Greenville, S.C.) and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives.
She always shared the blessings of those who had impacted her life and hoped to convey a heartfelt Thank You! to her loving grandmother Mae Oglesby (Greenville, S.C.) and a very dear friend who also preceded her in death, Crystal Gray (31) (Greenville, S.C.).
Constance leaves to be deeply cherished much found memories with her devoted and loving wife of three years, Alexis C. (Brown) Byrd (40) and two children; Joslyn M. Byrd (20), and Brayden X. Byrd (10), of the home (Travelers Rest, S.C.).
