Clyde Vance Christy died at his home Monday, December 6, 2021 surrounded by the love and presence of his wife and sons. He was born in Greenville County, January 29, 1927, to the parents of Zeb and Vera Pierce Christy (predeceased). He was also predeceased by his brother Lloyd and his sister Viola. Clyde was 94 years old. He graduated from Parker High School and married Rachel Henderson Christy, his high school sweetheart and wife of 74 years.
Clyde was welcomed into Heaven by his son Tommy (Cathy) who also predeceased him in August of 2015. In addition to his wife Rachel, Clyde leaves behind three sons, Terry (Juliana), Tim (Kathi), and Mark (Janet). He was lovingly known as PaPa to his nine grandchildren; Brad, Adam, Ami, Josh, Zach, Morgan, David, Mandy, and Megan, his twenty-six great-grandchildren, and his six great-great grandchildren. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than watching his family grow; he attended many of their school and sporting events, spoiled them with occasional afterschool pickups, and spend the night parties.
Clyde proudly served our country upon the USS Floyd B. Parks and was honorably discharged from the Navy after two years of service in 1946. Returning stateside, he started working with Bellsouth, retiring from management after 43 years of service. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was the multi-year winner of the annual Miss “Ding A-ling” Pageant. Clyde was an avid baseball fan and played in softball leagues for many years. He was also an active member and leader at Saint Mark United Methodist Church.
Clyde was a rare and wonderful man, loving, honest, humble and always available. He will be missed just as he was loved…deeply and forever.
A funeral services will be held at 12:00 AM on December 10, 2021 at Mackey Funerals and Cremation at Century Drive. Burial to follow immediately Woodlawn Memorial Park.
