Carl Parrott Hunter

Born December 3, 1928 to Claude and Della Hunter, he grew up on a farm at the foot of Six Mile Mountain with 13 siblings.

He was baptized at Mountain View Baptist Church in Six Mile as a young man and carried that faith with him always. Carl was a self-made man with humble beginnings. He began working at Milliken & Company at age 16, sweeping floors at night. He was inducted in the Army in 1951. After spending two years in Germany, he came back as an active member of the Army Reserves, enrolled in Clemson College and graduated in three years with the first civilian class of 1956. He was honorably discharged in September of 1956. Immediately after graduation, he married a little majorette from Pickens, SC, Betty Boggs on August 12th, 1956. The two began their life together as Carl worked his way up the corporate ladder retiring at the age of 75, devoting over 59 years of service at Milliken & Company.

Carl and Betty raised two children and later found joy in their role as grandparents and great grandparents. Carl was a master gardener and when he wasn’t in his garden you could find him fishing. He was a storyteller and loved telling stories about his childhood, his parents, and his time overseas. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family and all who knew him are witness to the life he lived and legacy he leaves behind.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Claude & Della Hunter as well as 12 siblings, infant child of Mike and Deborah Hunter, granddaughter Carly Hunter, and his wife Betty Boggs Hunter of almost 59 years.

He is survived by his younger sister- Sue Gibson, two sons- Michael D. Hunter (Deborah) and Jimmy L. Hunter (Tina Kuehn, & her children Shaun & Devin), grandchildren- Adam Hunter (Erin), Jacinta Livingston (Chase), Nicholas Hunter (Alex), great grandchildren- Olivia Livingston, Kayleigh Hunter, Hunter Livingston, Adalynn Hunter, Emmie Hunter, Samuel Hunter, and Greyson Hunter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Remembrance Mausoleum Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation one hour prior and burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, South Carolina.
