Harold J Smith

Harold “Jim” Smith, age 86 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 3:47 PM Wednesday January 3, 2024 at the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Jim was born December 18, 1937 in Texas and the son of the late Lyell and Mildred (Putoff) Smith.

Jim loved the Lord and led many people to the Lord during his 32 years of participation at the YMCA. He was retired from General Motors of Dayton and prior to that, he had been employed at Tuffy Brooks Sporting Goods Store for 5 years field testing fishing tackle.

Jim loved to be outdoors, fishing, hunting, spending time with his younger grandsons teaching them how to shoot their guns and cast their fishing reels and even mowing his yard, but most of all loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years Kathy (Adams) Smith of Arcanum. Also his children Donna (Ray) Burnett of Greenville, Carol Simon of Florida, Bonnie (Michael) Graeter of Beavercreek, Jim Jr. Smith and Doris of Piqua, Ricky (Donna Jo) Smith of Union, Bill Smith of Sidney and Mike (Cathy) Smith of Troy; 11 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandsons and sister Doris (Kenny) Coppess of Huber Heights.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday January 8, 2024 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bill Cornett officiating. Burial will follow in the Newcomers Cemetery Franklin Township Darke County, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the Gideon Bible Program.
