Raymond Edward Fortman, 68, of Greensburg passed away on Monday, January 9th. He was born on October 22, 1948, in Fort Wayne, the son of Harold and Freida Fortman. Raymond was a United States Army Veteran. He graduated in 1976 with an honorary Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University. On May 17, 1975 he married Susan Boerner. Ray and Sue made Greensburg their home in 1978 when Ray joined Hook’s Drugs as a pharmacist. The pharmacy’s name changed over time from Hooks Drugs to Revco to CVS but Raymond remained a constant until his retirement in October 2013. Raymond loved fishing at Lake Santee and sports of any kind especially the Boilermakers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lake Santee Kiwanis- past president, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, American Pharmacists Association, Indiana Pharmacist Association, committee member of local Boy Scout Troop #574, the John Purdue Club and was volunteered by Sue for all the projects she was a part of over the years.
Survivors include: Wife- Susan Fortman; Son- Michael (Brittany) Fortman; Grandson- Logan Fortman; Twin Brother- Richard (Joan) Fortman; Mother-in-law- Beryl Boerner; Sister-in-laws- Jane (Eric) Foreman and Betty (Dean) Fleenor; Brother-in-law- William (Ellen) Boerner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at the Gilliland Howe Funeral Home on Friday, January 13th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 am. Father John Meyer will be officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund, Decatur Co. Parks Foundation, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
