Donald Carl Hermesch 86, passed away on February 7, 2021 at Aspen Place Health Campus. He was born May 17, 1934 to Robert Sr. and Kathryn (Nieman) Hermesch and grew up in Millhousen. Don was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge.
He married Imogene (Jeanie) Becker on February 11, 1956 in Batesville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2020. He worked as a brick mason almost all of his life into his early seventies. Don was an IU fan and enjoyed listening to the Cincinnati Reds. Don loved talking to people and telling jokes and making people laugh. He especially enjoyed having family over on Sunday for a cookout and swimming with the grandchildren. Don looked forward to going to dances at the Eagles in Batesville and Greensburg and also went to the American Legion in St. Leon as well as many other dance venues. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Some of his favorite card games were Solo, Five Hundred and Euchre. He also enjoyed taking care of his 1950 John Deere B tractor. Don spent many hours in his garage talking with family, friends and neighbors when they would stop by to visit.
He is survived by one son Gerald (Diana) Hermesch and two daughters, Donna (Jeff) Hay, and Shari (Paul) Scheidler, all of Greensburg. He is survived by three brothers Ralph Hermesch, Walter Hermesch and Robert Hermesch Jr. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Melinda (Scott) Werner, Noblesville, Chris (Danielle) Hermesch, Greensburg, Julie (David) Jackson, Noblesville, Laura (Jason) Glenn, Greenfield, Scott Wenning, Indianapolis, Bradley Scheidler, Greensburg and Kaitlynn (Ben) Meadows, Greensburg. He also has eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Marita Hermesch.
There will be a private Mass for the family at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. The service will also be available on the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask any donations be made to St. Mary’s Church or to St. Mary’s School.
