David Frederic Osting, 69, passed away September 26, 2019 at his home near Milroy, Indiana. David was born on April 30, 1950 in Greensburg, the son of Stanley and Helen (Springmier) Osting. He graduated from North Decatur High School and then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education from Vincennes University and Murray State University.
On August 31, 1969 he married Linda Foster, his wife of 50 years, and she survives. Other survivors include son, Nathan (Jennifer) Osting of Milroy, daughter, Amy (Jason) Murray of Greensburg, and son, Brett (Kristy) Osting of Greensburg; two sisters, Margaret Davis and Becky Sims both of Greensburg; and eight grandchildren, Addy, Balee and Cati Osting; Devon, Brayden and Ashton Murray; and Gracie and Luke Osting. He also leaves behind his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Sara (Fey) Foster; and brother-in-law, Stan Nichols, along with several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Karen Foster Nichols, and mother-in-law, E. Janet (Hitchell) Reed.
David farmed in Rush County until the tornado of July 9th, 1980 and then moved to Decatur County to farm with his parents. He was on the Premier Ag Board for ten years and the Decatur County Community School Board for eight years. He attended the First Christian Church in Greensburg. David enjoyed sports, boating and animals. His biggest love was for his wife, his children and grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 11:00 am, all at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Wolford will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
