William “Earl” Williams entered into eternal rest peacefully in his home at 7:30 pm December 18, 2022. Earl was born on April 21, 1949, to William Henry Williams and Ida Mae Maryland Williams in Wilson, North Carolina. He is the oldest son of 13 and is survived by siblings Bobby “Ray” (Lynn) Williams, Rudolph (Ruth) Williams, Charles Williams, Ronnie (Robin) Williams, Ella (James) Sinclair, Diane Judd, and Shirley (Denoris) Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Henry Williams and Ida Mae Williams; brother, James “Doug” Williams; sisters, Ida “Louise” Hayes and Jeanette Williams and son, Marc Anthony Mitchell.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Janet Smyth Williams; children, Raquel “Penny” Achilike (Franklin) and Satonya Turnbull (Eduardo) and Philip Witherspoon (Keisha). He was a beloved stepfather to Shane Beal (Tara), Brittany Catoe and Stephanie Catoe Malave (Justin). Earl was blessed with a total of 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and 7 step-grandchildren.
Earl was a dedicated trucking owner-operator for over 45 years alongside his co- pilot (Cam) for the last 8 years. He leased his truck to EPES Transport from 1999 to 2021 until his health declined. He was a hard worker who loved what he did. Earl loved spending time with family and friends, dancing, and listening to live music with an occasional adult beverage (or two)! He loved the mountains, especially at Christmas time and enjoyed all the Christmas lights while traveling. He loved a good debate, but never discussed politics or religion so as not to lose a friend. Earl was always up for good conversation and loved telling stories of his youth. He will be remembered as our loving protector and provider who took great pride in his family. He was loved by many and will always be remembered for his love and kindness.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel followed by a celebration of life at 4:30 PM officiated by Pastor Eric Freeman.
