William "Bill" Leon Johnson Jr.

Following a private family burial at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Greensboro. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.

Born February 8, 1925 in Smithfield, NC, to the late William Leon Johnson and Alice Gordon Johnson, Mr. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro for over 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corp. and retired as Vice President of Burlington Industries after 41 years of service. He was a member of YBM (Young Business Men’s Club), a long-time member of Starmount Forest Country Club, attended North Carolina State University and in his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Gordon Johnson and a sister, Mary Lynn Statkus.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Patricia J. Christian and her husband William “Chip” of Lynchburg, VA, W. Gordon Johnson and his wife, Julee of Greensboro, and Alison J. Thompson and her husband Jeffrey of Summerfield; granddaughter, Courtney C. Lambert and her husband Scott of Charlottesville, VA; grandson, W. Spencer Thompson of Denver, CO; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Williford and Bette Daughtry; along with other extended family and friends.
