

Virgie Ray Bingham, 85, died May 7, 2012 after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary with visitation to follow at the church.
Virgie was born in Harnett County, NC to Bruce Ray and Bertha Rosser Ray. She was a graduate of the Duke University School of Nursing. During her career she worked as an RN and nursing instructor at Cone and Wesley Long Hospitals, and GTCC.
Virgie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. The annual family vacation to Myrtle Beach was something she enjoyed for over 50 years. In her later years, she discovered woodcarving. She surrounded herself with many friends who also shared this interest. She never lost her love for learning.
She is survived by children Jane Burton (Jeff) of Greenville, SC, Bruce Bingham (Bonnie) of Greensboro, and Robert Bingham (Lamecia) of Clearwater, FL; grandchildren Sara Awtrey (Jack), Lauren Winkler (Josh), Jenn Schweizer (Mark), Cassidy Bingham, and Stephen Bingham; great-granddaughter Hannah Winkler.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband of 62 years, Alvin L. Bingham Jr., two brothers and two sisters.
