Thomas Edward “Ed” Ragan, Jr., 52, of Churchton, MD died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his family’s home. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15, at 1PM at Hinshaw United Methodist Church with Reverend Donna Smith officiating. Interment will follow at 3PM in Woodleaf United Methodist Church Cemetery in Woodleaf, NC.
Mr. Ragan was born in Rowan County, the son of Mr. Thomas E. Ragan, Sr., and Mrs. Fern Swicegood Ragan Haeling. He graduated from Herndon High School in 1976 and also from Northern Virginia Community College with a degree in data processing. He formerly lived in Sterling, Virginia for many years before moving to Maryland in 2005. Mr. Ragan was a member of Herndon United Methodist Church and Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He was employed by Hadron Inc. for more than twenty years and with Integral Systems for approximately eight years. He was an avid sports fan, coached Little League for many years and enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He especially enjoyed the outdoors and going to the beach where he loved to collect seashells.
Mr. Ragan is survived by his children, Jenny Ragan Garcia and husband Ryan of Tuscon, AZ and Thomas E. Ragan, III who is serving in the US Navy in Bangor, WA. Also surviving is his father of Chattanooga, TN and his mother and her husband Warren Haeling of Greensboro; brother, Scott Ragan of Costa Mesa, CA; grandchildren, Hali, Ashlyn and R.J. Garcia; niece Alex Ragan of Costa Mesa, CA; and mother of his children, Georgette Frakes of Tuscon, AZ.
The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, Sunday, March 14 from 7 to 9 PM.
