Thomas Harold “T.H.” Lackey, 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 09, 2017, at Moses Cone Hospital. T.H. was born on October 27, 1923, in Statesville, NC, the son of T. A. and Virgie Lackey. He served his country in the US Navy during WW II on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. Following his military service, he worked in the aircraft maintenance industry and received the Charles Taylor Award for his 50+ years of service. T. H. loved to travel and he and Blanche spent many a day on the road in their motor home going to Square Dance gatherings. He also loved to fly.
From the time his son Steve was little, he spent a lot of time with him going to Quarter Horse events and helping him with his love of horses. They also spent many a day at Duke football and basketball games as avid Duke fans. T. H. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
T. H. was preceded in death by his loving wife Blanche in 2007. Those surviving are his son, Stephen Lackey and Meredith; grandchildren, Jacob Parker and Sarah Hart and one great grandchild, Hadlee Jo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11:00 am at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Burial with full military rites will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 to 7 pm at funeral home.
