Stephen James Chase, 82, passed away in the morning on July 20, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. He was raised in Muncie, Indiana where he was involved in baseball, tennis and golf. After graduating from Muncie Central, he attended Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. While in college, Steve met Linda (Sue) and was married on the day he graduated in 1964! After college, he joined the Army National Guard and served for six years.
Steve spent most of his career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in retail, owned two small businesses and had a short stint in real estate with his wife-- until he was fired by Sue! As a retail executive, he indulged his love of fashion and was a sharp dresser from head to toe.
Steve had a passion for sports. He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers, his Michigan State Spartans, and converted to a Clemson Tigers fan after both his sons attended Clemson University. Steve was a fierce competitor, which may or may not have lost him a few friends on the golf course, but “Sunday Golf” helped forge strong bonds with his two sons. Steve was a dedicated family man, who taught his boys the value of hard work on Saturdays in the yard, followed by Sunday battles on the golf course, where he taught them honesty and integrity. Steve spent the last 34 years in Greensboro, NC where he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to ride horses, walking his golden retrievers, and golfing at Forest Oaks Country Club.
Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue Chase; his son Shanon (and Amina) Chase; his son Christopher (and Shannon) Chase; his grandchildren, Reagan (and Joe) Schroer, Tillman, Heath, and Lina Chase. He is also survived by his brother John (and Cynthia) Chase and his sister-in-law Diane Gegus.
