Shirley Martin Shaw, 85 of Greensboro, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident. She was born May 10,1939, on Randolph Avenue, in Greensboro, the youngest and 11th child of Posey Green Martin Sr. and Daisy Burgess Martin.
Shirley graduated from Grimsley High, class of 1957. Her work ethics and determination brought her many job titles, the last being for the Supreme Maintenance Organization where she retired at the age of 80 and still had many contacts and friends with whom she enjoyed meeting for lunches and having conversations by phone. Shirley loved her church, her God and all her lovely flower gardens in which she took great pride.
Shirley was loved by all that knew her, with her infectious smile, humor and wit and care for all. She was famous for always sending cards to friends and family for all occasions, and her singing of Happy Birthday, usually left on a voicemail, with her special lyrics was always anticipated. Also, we teased her about her love of humming all kinds of songs. Christmas was a special time to her, and we always looked forward to hearing her read a Christmas story that she would work on all year as a gift to her family. They were masterpieces and tear jerkers.
