Sarah Watson Caldwell, 75, of Greensboro, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, after a brief but brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband William J. (Buck) Barfield in 1976, and her husband of 38 years, Olen J. Caldwell, and her parents, Harvey T. Watson, Sr. and Dainese O. Walters.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Parkway Baptist Church, 1411 Benjamin Parkway, Greensboro, NC 27408. Internment will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
She was retired from Central Floral Gardens after 35 years of service, and a charter member of the Shrinking Violets chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was an avid tennis player, playing several times a week until she became sick. She also played competitively with city teams and USTA, receiving several State titles in doubles. She was a beloved active member of Parkway Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving the congregation on multiple committees as well as a deacon in recent years until her death.
Surviving are her sons, Don Carrico, of Ocala, Fl., William (Wes) Barfield and wife Pam, of Apex; stepsons Greg Caldwell and wife Pam, of Bowling Green, OH; Tim Caldwell, of Delta, OH; daughter Dainese Keever of Greensboro; stepdaughter Wanda Fields and husband Jeff, of Pioneer, Ohio; sister, Patricia (Patsy) Sword of Jacksonville, AR; brother Harvey T. (Tom) Watson and wife, Alice, of Old Hickory, TN; brother-in-law Robert Caldwell and wife Jeanette, of Catawba, NC. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
