Leona was born January 14, 1929, in Greensboro, NC, to the late Arthur and Effie (Walker) Copple. She received joy from the Lord and helping others. She was a caregiver for Caring Hands of Guilford County for many years. Prior to that, she was employed by Curtis Packing Company as the frank-o-matic operator.
Leona was “an amazing woman, as a wife, mom, grandma, great-mawmaw, great great-mawmaw, sister, aunt, and friend, who was an example of hard work, compassion, kindness, and love”. She loved everyone she met and enjoyed surrounding herself with her family and friends.
She is survived by her brother Arthur Copple (Betty) of Staley, NC; her children, and their spouses; E.C. Thornburg (Inez) of Whitsett, Homer Thornburg (Brenda-deceased) of Denton, Joyce Isley (Floyd) of Randleman, Jerry Thornburg (Toni) of Pleasant Garden, Daughter-In-Law Evelyn Thornburg of Pleasant Garden, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; and special friend, Swanson Lawson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a beloved son, Gary Thornburg; sisters, Virginia Copple, Annie Ruth Copple, Hazel Goodman, Edith Oakes and a brother, Willis Copple.
Funeral services will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2020, with Pastor Marvin Patterson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 pm at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service and other times at the home of Jerry and Toni Thornburg, 7649 Racine Rd., Pleasant Garden, NC 27313. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, mask are required at all times.
