The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 8:30pm for a Celebration of Life in the Activity center located in the Linville Building at Whitestone Retirement Community, 700 Holden Rd, on May 30th, 2019.
Roy was born December 20, 1936 in Evanston, IL. He was a loved and respected husband, father, grandfather (Papa), brother, uncle and friend. Roy graduated from Evanston High School (IL) in 1954, and attended college for a year before enlisting in the army. His tour of duty took him to Germany where he also got to race motorcycles. Returning to the states, he completed college at the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana in 1963 and went to work as a mechanical engineer. Roy had a very interesting and varied career which took him all over the central, northeast, and southeastern United States. He worked with Ford Motor Company, where he became President of the Hi Risers, the Ford Factory Drag Racing Club. He also worked at Ingersoll Rand, Bauer (a German air compressor company) before finally retiring from ABCO Automation, Inc. in NC. He also became a member of the Society for Automotive Engineers.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Janet Cookman Reid; his parents, Roy Francis Reid and Lillian Lemon Reid; and sister, Edyth Douet Reid Stephey Cecil.
Roy is survived by his son, David R. Reid (Sonya); his daughter, Susan L. Reid; granddaughter, Karyn A. Reid; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Roy was highly respected in his field, considered a hard working loyal employee and a trusted colleague. He loved anything mechanical and race car enthusiast for sure, along with eating chocolate! He was a great friend and was always ready to help anyone out.
