Greensboro, NC – Born the eldest son of Robert Earl Logan, Jr and Anne Staples (Logan) Mitchell on October 14th, 1964 in Spartanburg, SC, Robert Earl took his position in the family seriously. He loved his siblings Michael Allan and James Ladd equally and strove to fulfill his destiny as eldest to protect and take care of them.
A graduate of Western Guilford High School, he married his high school sweetheart Emily Florence and received his undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro in 1988, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina – Columbia in 1990.
Despite of/or because of his degrees, Robert Earl became fascinated by computers and spent the rest of his career either teaching, building, programming or working in some aspect of computer technology. In the 1990s, he became Microsoft Certified and taught classes at ECPI, as well as teaching himself how to program and build computers and websites from scratch during the early stages of the computer industry.
He married his second wife Annette in the early 1990s and gained a ready-made family of two step-daughters Stacy and Tia. Robert Earl continued his career by working in the IT department at Moses Cone Hospital and then being recruited by MODIS for placement as a computer consultant at Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, NC.
In 2000, he started working for himself designing websites and repairing computers as LoganStation. His mother gave him a Bichon Frise puppy which he named Zachariah Superdog, who was his constant companion until he passed in 2019.
Robert Earl was a great cook specializing in Southern comfort foods he learned from his mother. He sky-dived with his father and hiked with his brother. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was always there to help a friend. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Robert Earl was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer in 2018 and went through 2 surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and was continuing to receive treatment for his cancer at Atrium Health - Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. The family wants to thank Dr. Mercedes Porosnicu, Dr. Dawson, Rebecca and all of Robert’s team for the good care he received from them.
Robert Earl is survived by his father Robert Earl Logan, Jr. and step-mother Mary Polkey; his mother Anne Staples (Logan) Mitchell and step-father Mitch Mitchell; his brother Michael Logan and wife Pam Foxx; niece Lauren Logan (Metcalf) and nephew Ladd Logan; his aunt Patricia Logan Harrison and husband John; his uncle Joe Logan and wife Margaret; his aunt Mary Staples Angle and husband David; cousins Wade Harrison and wife Asha; cousin Mariah Logan; and cousins Alex Angle and wife Laura; and cousin Leigh Angle.
Robert Earl is also survived by his two ex-wives Emily Florence Watkins and Annette Logan, as well as his two step-daughters Stacy Jones Frahm and husband Jason, and Tia Lankford and husband John. He also leaves to cherish his life and memory his long-time best friend Judith Kastner, of the home, and his special cat friend Gracie and Ernie, the turtle.
He was preceded in death by his youngest brother Ladd and will be buried with him at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Spartanburg, SC.
A gathering of family and friends for Robert Earl will be held on Wednesday, April 12th from 6-8pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Homes, 515 North Elm Street in downtown Greensboro. A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC on April 19 at 2pm.
