Robert Henry Koonts, 91, passed away peacefully June 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 6 at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro followed by visitation in the Virginia Gilmer Room. Interment will be private at Oakwood Cemetery in High Point.
Born May 8, 1927 in Greensboro to Henry Valentine and Margaret Andrew Koonts, Bob grew up in High Point. He was an alumnus of UNC- CH graduating in 1949, subsequently earning a JD in 1952 also from UNC- CH. At Chapel Hill, Bob was a member of the football teams of 1946-1949, Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Gorgon’s Head Lodge. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Thereafter, he worked for Jefferson Pilot for thirty-eight years, retiring as general counsel.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wall Koonts; daughters, Linda Koonts Farrar of Apex and Barbara Koonts Burgess and husband, Barry of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren, Andrew Farrar, Mallory Burgess and Barry Burgess. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Katherine Ann and grandson, Robert Wiatt Farrar.
