Michael Eugene Cavin (Mike) passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital with loving family beside him to the very end. Mike was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 10, 1937 to Hugh Walker Cavin and Winifred Spencer Cavin. After graduating high school, he entered his beloved Wofford College where his mother-in-law, Helen Branyon Upton was Assistant Director of Public Relations and Alumni Affairs and his uncle Dr. Henry Cavin was head chemistry professor. Actively involved at Wofford, he was president of his fraternity and glee club. His passion as a drummer led him to join The Aristocrats and later The Collegiates. It was during this time, while playing drums for a dance in Spartanburg he met his beloved wife Diane of 61 years.
Upon graduating college, Mike began his life long career in the building supply business where he later traveled helping to restructure troubling plants. During these years he was passionately playing golf, last to survive his golf foursome of 20+ years, deacon of the Presbyterian Church and ongoing retired drummer playing for several Wofford reunions. He later retired in Greensboro to be near grandchildren. Mike was best known for his role as “Dally”, beloved, gentle, calm, “grandfather” to so many beyond his very own grandchildren. Three weeks prior to unexpectedly losing “Dally”, he was surrounded by friends and family at the wedding of youngest grandson; that special time, being remembered as Mike’s true celebration of life.
Mike was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, his two children, Helen Cavin Spigner (Prescott) and Michael Eugene Cavin, Jr. (Nadja), his grandchildren, Prescott Bush Spigner IV (Brandi) and Michael Branyon Spigner (Katie).
A small family service is being planned.
