Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Watson, 91 was born on January 13, 1932. She married James Alton Watson on June 16, 1950, and they had a family of four children. They were married 70 years until his passing in December 2020. On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Mary joined her husband Jim in heaven along with her parents Jim and Gladys Mitchell, brother Robey Mitchell, brother William Mitchell, sister Emaline Vestal, one child Bill Watson, and one grandchild Amelia Watson. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family.
Mary is survived by her daughter Jan Hipp (Guy), daughter Pam Watson, and son Jimmy Watson (Amanda); six grandchildren: Joy (Glenn), Jonathan (Pamela), Mitchell, Alex (Peyton), Carter (Sarah), and Joseph; and five great grandchildren: Conner, Logan, Addison, Finn, and Raegan. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Martin and Pat Gambill, sister-in-law Pug Mitchell, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary dedicated her entire adult life to the care of children. She taught Sunday School and volunteered for church nursery service in every church in which she was a member over a period of decades. She was a frequent caregiver for her many grandchildren and was adored by them all. Mary was a magnet for children. They could sense her special heart and gravitate toward her in every setting. She was also an exceptional homemaker, seamstress, and served as a church secretary for many years.
Mary was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be missed, and we will all cherish the love she shared with us throughout our lives.
