Mary Elizabeth Smith

Mary Elizabeth Shelton Smith, age 80, of Greensboro, North Carolina passed away on November 24, 2023. She was born in Randolph County on March 30, 1943 to Walter J. Shelton and Elsie Mae (Duncan) Shelton.

She retired from Gilbarco in Greensboro after 20+ years of working as an Inventory Clerk. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains, being outside in her garden, and arts and crafts, notably scrapbooking as she compiled many, many years of precious memories inside several books.

Mary was a graduate of Grays Chapel School in 1961. She was a faithful Christian currently attending Community Baptist Church and was formerly a longtime member of Sumner Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Smith and Martin Smith; Seven grandchildren: Taylor Smith Edwards (Terry), Sarah Smith, Hannah Smith (Robert), Dylan Smith, Noah Smith, Emma Smith, and Jacob Smith; Two great-grandchildren: Emery Edwards and Theodore Christman; Three sisters: Clara Hughes, Mabel Ling, Jean Elberson and Long-time friend Glenn Hodgin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Maxie Smith, and her sister Betty Barker.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 12:00-1:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC prior to the Funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Gilmore Memorial Park, 6500 Liberty Rd., Julian, NC.
