A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive.
Mary Ann was born January 26, 1933, in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She is the daughter of the late Wade H. Nichols, Sr. and Elsie Taylor Nichols. On October 31, 1950, she and George Roy Perkins, Sr., were married and while he was serving a three year tour in Germany, Mary Ann learned under the tutorship of a German artist to become a very talented artist in Alaska where she worked in an art gallery with other artists. Mary Ann and her husband, George Perkins also owned a real estate business for ten years in Alaska, Perkins Real Estate. Most notable, Mary Ann was the mother of five children whom she cared for solely while her husband George was overseas serving his country during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. She was a cradle to grave Catholic.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Edwards and siblings, Wade Nichols and Jacqueline Buehler. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 72 years, George Roy Perkins, Sr.; children, Jacque Perkins, Janet Durham, both of Greensboro, George Perkins, Jr. and wife Lori of Summerfield, Teresa Denise Martin and husband, Butch of Eagle River, Alaska; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27408.
