A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, located at 1900 Vanstory St. in Greensboro.
Lynn was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 25, 1941, to the late Winfield Terry Cooper and Amy Antoinette Cooper. She is described by her loved ones as a creative, caring woman with a special place in her heart for gardening, pottery, fine arts, crafts, art history, literature, animal welfare, and her many students. Lynn was an art teacher with Greensboro City Schools where she is remembered fondly by teachers and students alike. She was an accomplished artist herself, a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and spent much of her early adult life showing her pottery at craft fairs across the United States. During her tenure at Mendenhall, Lynn, in partnership with Anna Lea Johnson, was actively involved in the Mendenhall Dinner Theater, volunteering on sets and design. In her retirement years, Lynn took up nature photography and spent her free time attending photography workshops, traveling internationally, and enjoying her time with good friends in Greensboro. She is lovingly remembered for her eccentric humor, independent spirit, creative flair, her outstanding sandwiches, and her appreciation for that which lives in the garden of beauty and grace. In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Powell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Scott Andrew Cooper and his wife Anna; her nephew, Brandon Terry Cooper; and her nieces, Jo Hannah Afton, Angela Lynn Cooper, and Camille Stacy Cooper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The United Arts Council at P.O. Box 877, Greensboro, NC 27402 and/or to the Mendenhall School Refugee Relief Fund, at 205 Willoughby Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27408.
