A visitation will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel & Guilford Memorial Park followed by funeral services 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest beside her husband immediately following the services.
Lucy graduated from Asheboro High in 1941 at age 16. She went on to Mars Hill College and graduated in 1943. Following college, she taught school in Franklinville for 2 years, then a year in Liberty, and one year in Guilford County. On March 8, 1947, she married James “Jimmy” Junior Parrish. They had four wonderful children and were married for 58 years before Jimmy passed away in 2006.
She is survived by her sister Bonnie Davenport; four children - Sarah Bates (Ernie), J.S. “Bud” Parrish (Debbie), Phil Parrish (Buffie), and Tony Parrish (Rene); seven grandchildren - Josh Parrish (Shannon), David Parrish (Heather), Adam Parrish (Amy), Erin Schawel (David), Kate Shavit (Tal), Haley Allen (Jon), and Rebecca Flynt (Andrew); and twelve great-grandchildren- Micah, Adyson, Henry, Luke, Carter, Anna, Avery, Ruthie, Braxton, Sydney, Porter, and Wesley.
Lucy was a member of Florida Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed working with children in Sunday School and teaching Bible School. Lucy played hand bells and sang in the senior choir. She was her Sunday School Class secretary for years and sent flowers and cards to the sick. She loved listening to gospel music daily and attended weekly Bible study.
Lucy was an avid bowler for over 50 years. She was on a weekly bowling team until she turned 90.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren deeply and was very proud of all of them. Lucy prayed for them daily and enjoyed their frequent visits.
