Born February 9, 1946, in Bel Air Maryland, Kay was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Eleanor Coale Walter. She was preceded in death by husband, Richard Jones McCollum, Greensboro, NC; brother, John Coale Walter and nephew, Wade Knight Walter, both of Bel Air, MD. She is survived by daughters, Melissa Bailey Hall (Lee) of Cornelius, NC and Kara Bailey Morris (Bobby) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Allen Morris and Mary Kathryn Norris. She is also survived by brother, Charles Edward Walter (Mara) of Forest Hill, MD, Martha Walter Boniface (Harry), Darlington, MD. and sister-in-law, Cheryl A. Walter of Bel Air, MD, and several nieces and nephews.
Kay graduated from Bel Air Senior High School, class of 1964, and attended the Baltimore Institute School of Business. She was an administrative assistant to the Principal at The John Carroll High School in Bel Air. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Bel Air, Maryland where she sang in the church choir, belonged to the youth group and taught Sunday School. She moved from Bel Air in 1973, and resided in Atlanta, GA, Pinehurst, NC, Rockingham, NC, Florence, SC and settled in Greensboro, NC.
Upon moving to Greensboro, she joined Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in 1989, where she initiated and attended the Seekers Sunday School Class, was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the Chancel Choir. After raising her daughters, Kay went back in the administrative work force and retired in 2019.
Her life hobbies included, avid reader, singing, needlework, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Garden Club Community projects, Junior Woman’s Club, Parent-Teacher Associations, Brownie Troop Leader, teaching Sunday School and child/adult tutoring programs.
A private memorial service will be held at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church.
