She was born to the late Milton and Evelyn Stokes on March 11, 1938, in Dallas, Texas. JoAn graduated from Sunset High School in 1956.
She married the late Grady Lynn Owen in 1956 and they lived together primarily in the Dallas area until their divorce in 1965. They had 3 children; Morgan Milton, of High Point, NC; Phillip Foster, deceased; and Andrew (Andy) Hardin, deceased. JoAn married the late Earl Wayne Harris in 1966 who had one adopted son, Mark Huey, of Hot Springs, AR. They adopted the last son, Warn Wayne, of Hot Springs, AR shortly after his birth. She is survived by her sons Morgan, Warn, and step-son Mark, as well as 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. JoAn was preceded in death by her loving husband Earl in 1986, her son Andrew in 1991, her granddaughter Kala in 2021, and her son Phillip in 2021.
JoAn was a loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Her parents instilled in her a deep love of family which she carried with her throughout her life. She was an accomplished guitar player and in her late teen years she was part of a girl band and performed in and around the Dallas area. From her father she also developed a love of the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. She felt most at peace when surrounded by family and the country. Though most of her life was lived in Hot Springs, AR she always considered herself a Texas Girl through and through. The last couple of weeks of her life were spent with son Morgan and his wife Lisa in North Carolina, where she intended to live for the rest of her days.
As JoAn strongly felt that in death she be returned to the earth to provide sustenance for nature she requested to be cremated upon her death and her ashes to be scattered over the graves of her late husband Earl and son Andy. Honoring that wish, there will be a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on June 8, 2021 at Oaklawn Chapel, Hot Springs, AR . Following the service, her cremains, along with the cremains of her late son Phillip, will be scattered in the McGill Cemetery on Walnut Valley Road near Hot Springs Village, AR.
