He was preceded in death by his oldest son Jimmy R. Ward in 2018. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Patsy M. Ward, and his sons Randall W. Ward, and Ronald K. Ward of Greensboro, daughter Melissa Lynn W. Bowers, son-in-law Eric Bowers of Thomasville NC, and his two grandsons Zack Bowers and Noah Bowers in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ward was born in Pulaski Tenn. where he lived with his mother, father and two sisters. He came to Greensboro to visit his oldest sister when he was 17 years old and never went back except for visits with family and friends, as he had met the love of his life in Greensboro, Mrs. Patsy M. Ward.
He served in the 82nd Airborne from 1956-1958 and was in Army reserves from 1958-1960. He married Patsy Michael on Jan.2 1959, with her he became the proud father of four children, three sons and a daughter. He has two grandsons that belong to his daughter Melissa, they were the apple of his eye and refer to him as PawPaw. He spent most of his life working in metal stamping and fabricating. He owned and operated a small shop in level Cross NC, called Eastern Metal Stamping and Fabricating, until 1994. After retiring he started a small business from home refurbishing microwave ovens and computers and selling them at the flea market on Highway 29 North. He was a master mechanic, more than capable when it came to working on cars, motorcycles and anything else that had a motor. He won multiple trophies while racing at Piedmont Drag Strip, all of which were cars that he had built or rebuilt the motors on.
He loved country and gospel music, and was known for his love to play the guitar and sing, in addition he played the harmonica and later would pick up the saxophone. He was known and loved by many and always will be, he will never be forgotten, his memory carried on by his wife, children and grandsons. God bless him and may he watch over his family from Heaven.
A small service will be held in his memory at Guilford Memorial Park, located at 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, on Monday, May the 4th at 2:00pm for family and close friends.
