James Michael Rowe of Greensboro, NC, died May 12, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He was born September 6, 1951, in Asheboro, NC and was the son of Arthur Clark Rowe and Jewell Lillian (Harris) Rowe. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Clark Rowe, and is survived by his brother Arthur Clark Rowe, Jr., as well as his wife of 26 years, Denise Day Rowe, his daughter Lillian Carol, of the home, and nephews Arthur Clark Rowe III and Daniel Carlton Rowe. He attended Wingate University and North Carolina State University.
Michael was a musician and recording artist. He was a band member and leader from the time he was a young boy and practiced his passion throughout his entire life. He played piano, drums, bass, keyboard, and organ, and was also lead vocalist. His preferred genre was rhythm and blues. He performed with bands in New York, Los Angeles, Greensboro, across the United States and Europe. He owned Memphis Studios NYC and later was owner and chef of Wild Magnolia Café in Greensboro.
After having his daughter, he developed an interest in the Disney princesses, figure skating, cheerleading, and pageants. He had an avid interest in driving and restoring British sports cars and held memberships in Triad Austin Healey Club and Rolls Royce Owners Club. He enjoyed frequent summer vacations with his family and friends at the beach, and traveling the world with his wife and daughter, as well.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for family-only at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, followed by internment at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. Michael was known to be happy, friendly, calm, and kind. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
