James (Jim) Osborne Hale

James (Jim) Osborne Hale, 95, died on August 17th in Greensboro, NC. Jim was born on July 19th, 1928 to Maizie Osborne Hale and Edwin Perkins Hale, in Pulaski, VA. He graduated from RJ Reynolds High School, served his country as Seaman, First Class of the US Navy with an Honorable Discharge on October 9th, 1947. He then attended North Carolina University in Chapel Hill with a major in business and accounting.

Jim was a career employee of the Bell System which evolved into Western Electric, AT&T, Nokia, and Lucent. He received many awards and honors during his 35+ year career. He returned to Greensboro in 1986 when he retired. Jim resumed his membership at Starmount Country Club, he traveled the world, played golf, tennis, made friends and enjoyed life. Jim was a 22-year member of Search Ministries Men’s Bible Study.

Jim is preceded in death by his two sisters, Anne Hale Bennett and Mary Katherine Denig.

Jim was married 26 years to Betty Redman Hale and they had four children. Shannon Anne Hale (children Jackie Bowers (husband Scott) and Joseph Bettini); Stephen R. Hale (wife Annette, children Justin Hale (wife Sarah and daughter Vivian) and Meredith Hale Wallace (husband Stan and daughter Colbie)); David Scott Hale (children Brandon Hale, Jared Hale-deceased 2016); Diane Hale Byrne (husband Perry, step-daughters Leresa Byrne Powers (husband John and daughter Camilla), Alicia Byrne Mobley (son Trevor, husband Scott and step-daughters Emily and Natalie).

The family invites you to join in a celebration of life ceremony in the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry, located at 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC, at 2:00 on Friday September 8th.

Thank you to all the wonderful medical personnel that made Jim comfortable in the last days of his wonderful, long life.
