Irene Pulliam Painter

She was born in Person County on October 14, 1921 to the late Samuel Mitchell Pulliam and Susan Ada Pernella Hargis Pulliam and was the wife of 37 years to the late Mack Reitzel Painter who died on March 8, 1986.

Irene was a Registered nurse at Wesley Long Community Hospital, 5th Floor Maternity Ward Supervisor for 35 years retiring in 1983.

She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, caring for her favorite pets and most of all being proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan Anna Watson (Ralph) of Charlotte; Janice Karen Gose of Greensboro; son Mack R. Painter, Jr. (Beth) of Elon; grandchildren, Laura Elstrom (Vance) of Charlotte; Anna Medlock (Brian) of Charlotte; David Watson of Charlotte; Robin Watson of Charlotte; Mary Katherine Watson of Lumberton; Dr. Nathan Paul Painter of Chapel Hill; Gavin Scott Painter and Katherine Cadwallader of Raleigh; Wesley Morrison (Kelly) of Mooresville; Ashley Ericson (Lee) of Mooresville; 6 great grandchildren: Tyler and Paige Morrison, Nolan and Graham Ericson, Kaleigh Elstrom and Madison Medlock.

She was preceded in death by her five brothers: Boyd, Carlton, Alvin, Jonah, and Flint and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407 by Reverend Mack R. Painter, Jr. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel at Guilford Memorial Park on Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. until service time.
